What to put in the training section of a CV

Training for a professional CV with more than 2 years of experience

If you are a professional with several years of experience, the training section must be very short . What is important is that you explain very clearly if your level of education corresponds to the position for which you are applying.

All professionals must include the following training information in their CV:

  • The name of the school, faculty or university.
  • Country and city where it is located.
  • The title obtained (License, Master, Doctorate, etc.)
  • The year of graduation .

Your studies should always be placed in descending chronological order . The most recent information should always be placed first.

If you have more than 2 years of professional experience, you should definitely talk about it first. Your recruiters will consider that the training section is less important. It would therefore be awkward to devote the first part to it. Start by talking about your previous jobs.

Training in a student CV

If you are still a student and you want to find a part-time job, a summer job, do an internship, or a social service, the academic training section must be the first of your CV .

It is okay to not have a lot of ‘professional experiences , if at all! It would just be awkward to mention it first on your CV.

We advise you to start with your training, highlighting the skills that it brought you that will be useful for your internship or your job.

Are you going to finish your preparatory studies or your Bachelor soon? Write down all the information about:

  • place of study
  • your years of beginning and end of studies
  • price or of distinctions you would have received

Start with the most recent years. You can write down the 3 most important diplomas you have received.

Training in a young graduate’s CV

As a young person graduate (less than 2 years of professional experience), you must provide information on the content of your training. We must be able to immediately identify your level of qualification and the type of training you have received. The name of the school or university and the start and end date must be easily identifiable.

As in a student CV, training must have a more important place than professional experience, since it is practically non-existent.

Prizes and distinctions

If during your years of study, you received a prize or a distinction for a research or a project, you should talk about it. We therefore advise you to inform it in the training section, if it is related to the studies that you have carried out.

Write the name of the prize and the distinction, followed by the project that was awarded and its year of graduation. You will surely be able to talk about it during an interview.

Courses and conferences

If you have attended a course related to your studies , you must say it in the training section. If you attended a famous convention, mention it.

For example: if you are a medical student and you went to the International Cancer Congress in 2018, it is important that you write it.

If you are a student of Letters and have taken a creative writing course given by renowned writers at the National School of Writers, note it in the training section.

Thesis and research topic

If you have recently graduated, you must put your professional experience in the background . So talk first about what you studied during your academic training in order to highlight it. If you have done the research for your thesis that is related to the job for which you are applying, we recommend that you write it down in the training section of your CV.
